Helpful Web sites

College Bound   A BUDL Partner!  If you go to a College Bound school, you qualify to be in the College Club just for being a debater, regardless of your grades or scores.  Go see your Specialist today to take advantage.  If your school doesn't have a Specialist, that doesn't mean you can't use their workshops, college fairs or apply for their LAST DOLLAR GRANT SCHOLARSHIP (one of the best deals going for B'More public schools' students)

Peterson's Guide  A good all purpose site for college searches, test prep and financial aid.

Black Excel  Admissions & Prep Help, HBCU info & contacts - plus scholarships for all!

Debate Schools  Colleges & Universities with debate programs - who are looking for BUDL students to join their teams! Many have financial aid dollars to give!

Tom Joyner Foundation  If you, your parents or grandparents listen to the show, you probably already know this, but in case you don't...Part of Tom's Black America Web, The Tom Joyner Foundation spotlights HBCUs, has contests for tours of HBCUs (one of which was recently won by four BUDL Juniors!) and provides HBCUs with money that the schools then use to fund scholarships.  A great resource for in-depth research into whether/which HBCU is right for you.

HBCU Connect  Part college access site, part facebook - this is a place where you can find out more about a school from students who are there now.  Please wait until you get into a school before you hook up with someone from there, though.

FastWeb  Similar to Peterson's and the non-SAT parts of College Board, this is another good site for researching schools and scholarships.  It pays to check as many scholarship sites as you can - there's a lot of free money out there if you're willing to do the work!

Required Web sites

FAFSA  We've all got to do it.  But it's really not that bad.  Make sure you get yours done as soon as possible, and contact CA-BUDL if you need any help.

The College Board  Home of our "friend", the SAT Test.  Which pretty much is that bad.  But CA-BUDL can help, and they actually have a really helpful website with a good college search function and lots of tips & practice for the test.  Go to register, stay for help.

MHEC  The source for state aid, the Maryland Higher Education Commission has programs that WILL help you pay for college.  Search scholarships - most of which can be applied for with one application - and note their deadline for FAFSA submission.  It's earlier that the Federal deadline...
